Mental Health Study in Athletes following Sports Injuries
The benefits of exercise to physical and mental health are well known. Team sports in particular, in addition to the above effects, confer an increased sense of togetherness and solidarity which enhances quality of life. As such, injuries to sports persons can have a devastating effect on the physical wellbeing, mental health, as well as the social structure and identity of the patient. The effects of these injuries on the mental and social wellbeing of amateur and professional sports participants has not been extensively studied. The purpose of this project is to find out the effect of serious musculoskeletal injuries on amateur rugby players in Kenya.
Global Hip Dysplasia Registry - Formation of an East African Hub for Study of this Paediatric Condition
Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) describes a spectrum of hip abnormalities in children ranging in severity from mild instability of a reduced hip to severe dysplasia in a complete and irreducibly dislocated hip. There is a dearth of high level evidence and prospective studies in the literature available to guide practitioners; consequently, much remains unknown about optimal screening, diagnostic and management practices. Furthermore, there is almost no reliable data on this condition from Africa which presents a particular challenge as there may be demographic differences in hip morphology, progression of dysplasia, and environmental factors as well as varied responses to methods of treatment. We are working on creating an African arm of the Global Hip Dysplasia Registry which, when populated, will be able to address the above questions.

Assessing the Impact of Covid on Orthopaedic Practice at a Tertiary Referral Centre
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is still being felt in multiple spheres of life. In healthcare, COVID-19 noticeably affected surgical practice in sub-Saharan Africa indicated by a reduction in elective cases with prioritisation of cancer and emergency cases. This study sought to describe the impact of COVID-19 on orthopaedic surgery practice both during and after the pandemic in a private tertiary referral hospital.
